By car:
The M11 goes straight past Saffron Walden so either exit at Bishop's Stortford (junc 8) or go through to the end of the motorway and take the A11 then turn off for the B184.
If you turn off at junction 8 take the A120 towards Bishop's Stortford, then turn right at the second roundabout and take the B1383 north through Stansted Mountfitchet and Newport. After nearly 10 miles, on the approach to Audley End, look for a turning on the right (B1052) to Saffron Walden. Take the turning and follow all the way into Saffron Walden itself, and then out the other side - signposts should now show you still on the B1052 and heading towards Little Walden. As you leave Saffron Walden there should be Castle remains on the right. Look out on the left after a couple of hundred yards for Catons Lane - the ground is there.
If you stay on the M11 to junction 9 you avoid many miles of twisting B roads. Take the A11 then the first turn off (B184) towards Great Chesterford and Saffron Walden. As you approach Saffron Walden there is a Golf Course on your right. There should be a turning on the left signposted for the Castle remains or the Museum. Take this turning, follow it through to the end then turn left into Little Walden Road (B1052) - you have now rejoined your fellow Towners who opted for the scenic route (see above).
By rail:
from Southbury or Brimsdown change at Cheshunt and/or Broxbourne for a Cambridge train. Make sure it stops at Audley End! If in doubt phone 08457 48 49 50 for train times etc.
