Despite going behind to an early goal, Town put Abbey under pressure for much of the game, eventually settling for a win courtesy of two quick second half goals. Waltham Abbey got the perfect start when Andy Keepance met a free kick unmarked, looping a header over the stranded Rob Blackburne after three minutes. Unfortunately Keepance day went downhill soon after when he went off injured. Enfield where shaken into action by the goal and Deniz Mehmet came close with a decent shot. Adam Wallace shrugged off a defender before firing home only for the goal to be ruled out. Abbey escaped a ball to the back post, then a shot from Lee Protheroe. Liam Hope had the best chance to open the scoring for Enfield, bringing down Sam Byfield's centre but shot straight at Harry Ricketts. Jey Siva then picked out Richard Morton, who headed over. Amin Ibrahim had a chance from a poor clearance but hit his shot high. As Abbey were pinned back Adam Wallace found the side netting. A rare break out saw Marshall Smith fire wide but Enfield kept up the pressure to the break, Protheroe drawing a fine save from Abbey's Harry Ricketts, and Richard Morton firing wide on the stroke of half time. Abbey where kept on the back foot in the second half, escaping early on when Ricketts made a good save, then denied Mark Kirby from the corner, Richard Morton's follow up cannoning off a defender onto the post. An Abbey break saw Smith through again, but Blackburne was out quickly to charge down his shot. Then Abbey were dealt a double blow. Enfield's Adam Wallace fired low across the goal from the right and Sam Byfield slammed home from close range. Abbey tried to respond from a free kick, but Blackburne gathered well. Minutes later Mark Kirby put the home club ahead with a simple tap in from close range for what proved the winner. A low drive from Lockie and an overhead attempt by Byfield failed to find the mark. Blackburne got down bravely taking the ball off the feet of Joe Eubel as Abbey looked to get back into the game, but Enfield shut up shop. There were still chances though. Substitute Paul Campbell's first touch played Wallace into the box but the ball stuck under his feet, and Rudi Hall was only denied by a class save from Ricketts. Enfield Town: Rob Blackburne, Jordan Lockie (Paul Campbell 80), Jey Siva, Craig McKay, Mark Kirby, Lee Protheroe, Deniz Mehmet (Fabio Valenti 45), Richard Morton, Liam Hope (Rudi Hall 73), Adam Wallace, Sam Byfield. Match details by Ciaran Glennon, Enfield Town FC Press Officer. A hugely competitive game of football saw not much between the two teams at half time. East Thurrock edged it with a goal from Jimmy Webb courtesy of the Town wall. However the home side went on to have the better of the second half, creating more chances but without getting any reward. A late rally from Enfield came with the introduction of Paul Campbell and Bryan Hammatt, but they were unable to find an equaliser. East Thurrock were creating the more dangerous opportunities but only managed to confirm the win with a late goal from Neil Richmond.
The game started well with both sides playing the ball around. Adam Wallace had a shot blocked and Michael Bardle did well to clear from Kris Newby. Bardle then did well to dispossess Richmond as he tried to control the ball for a shot. Craig McKay was on hand to rob Richmond when he appeared through. A tempting cross from Fabio Valenti was planted back in the danger area, but Joe Keith maintained his composure to clear. A great chance came for The Rocks when a long ball picked out Newby, but he glanced his header over. In a hectic period Liam Hope curled a shot just too high, while at the other end Jordan Lockie steered the ball behind for a corner. With the pace hotting up Wallace chased a ball colliding with Richard Wray who was out quickly to gather. The break through came when Jimmy Webb took a free kick from the edge of the box which seemed to take a deflection stranding Rob Blackburne in no mans land.
The second half saw East Thurrock up the pace. Lockie was lucky to see a clearance fall kindly for Blackburne after Kye Ruel had charged down a quick break then caught the Enfield defence out, allowing him to lob Blackburne who could only watch as the ball went past the post. Newby was able to block a sloppy clearance by Mark Kirby but again Blackburne was on hand. Wallace and Bardle combined well to win a corner but the kick saw the ball ricochet around the area, but it wouldn't come down for a shot. The chance of the game came with Richmond picked out unmarked in front of goal, but he blazed over from close range. Enfield's best chance for an equaliser then came when Morton cut the ball inside to Byfield who created space and put the ball clear of Wray only to see it go outside the post. Valenti had some luck on the right and Sammons was fortunate to see his clearance loop over his own keeper and fall just wide. Max Cornhill came close to a Thurrock second goal, his volley hitting the post. Bryan Hammatt livened things up for Town, cutting a shot to the back post but Wray managed to clear the follow up shot. Byfield picked up a booking for a late challenge on Sammons. Town kept looking for an equaliser, Hammatt firing over and a 40 yard belter from Protheroe testing Wray, but when Webb danced along the line he cut the ball past Blackburne giving Richmond the simplest of tap ins and this time he made no mistake. Enfield Town: Rob Blackburne, Jordan Lockie, Michael Bardle, Craig McKay, Mark Kirby, Lee Protheroe, Fabio Valenti (Paul Campbell 73), Richard Morton (Rudi Hall 82),Liam Hope (Bryan Hammatt 73), Adam Wallace, Sam Byfield. Match details by Ciaran Glennon, Enfield Town FC Press Officer. Enfield eased through to the 1st qualifying round of this season's FA Cup at Cricklefields against Waltham Forest. The score remained 0-0 at half time thanks in no small part to former Towner Jason Willis in the Waltham Forest goal and the crossbar which denied Richard Morton. The goals all came in a ten minute spell in the second half with Lee Protheroe opening the scoring from the penalty spot after Sam Byfield was brought down, Richard Morton finishing off a great move down the right by Deniz Mehmet and Michael Bardle, and Sam Byfield whose goal from the edge of the area was set up by Adam Wallace. Wallace also had a goal disallowed for offside. Enfield Town: Rob Blackburne, Jordan Lockie, Jey Siva, Craig McKay, Mark Kirby, Lee Protheroe (Rudi Hall 72), Deniz Mehmet, Richard Morton, Michael Bardle, Adam Wallace (Bryan Hammatt 77), Sam Byfeld (Fabio Valenti 77). Subs Not Used: Paul Campbell, Dave Kendall, Liam Hope, Jason Holmes. Booked: Mehmet, Bardle. Match details by Ciaran Glennon, Enfield Town FC Press Officer. Enfield controlled the first half for long spells but could only get a single goal lead courtesy of Richard Morton's 13th minute strike, Harlow could not step up their game for the second half and after Morton's second goal seemed to lose their way. Three more goals followed as Enfield kept up their pace to the end. Morton headed a Jey Siva cross behind and Michael Bardle had a shot charged down in the opening stages. Rob Blackburne was out quickly to snuff out an early chance and Jeff Hammond squandered a chance just failing to connect at the back post. Morton then opened the scoring meeting a cross firing past James Hassell. Almost immediately Leo Roget went off injured and Harlow's problems got worse shortly after that. Sosthene Yao fired a fierce shot at Blackburne, injuring himself in the process and he was also forced out of the game. Town went on to have most of the possession, as Harlow seemed unsettled by the enforced substitutions, Adam Wallace caused a number of problems down the right, and Liam Hope came close, hooking a shot just past the post, and the ball hitting him on the back as he chased forward to meet another Siva ball into the box. Harlow also had chances, Lee Protheroe doing well to clear a Clark Akers free kick, and Reece Dobson caused problems with a cross, Blackburne having to force his way to the ball to punch clear. Harlow appeared calmer after the break, but it did not help improve their game enough. They created a few chances early on, Hammond firing a cross just too high for Dobson, then Dobson breaking up an Enfield move before being stopped by Bardle. Blackburne then punched a free kick behind, but there were danger signs at the other end. Byfield and Morton both came close, then Adam Wallace dragged a shot across the goal. Sam Byfield then created space, but his shot cannoned off Lawrie Stewart. Wallace then had a shot tipped onto the bar by Hassell, before Morton's header bit the bar coming down on the line, and Liam Hope made sure heading in from close range. Hassell was worked hard as Enfield upped the pressure. First palming a Wallace shot into the side netting then tipping Byfield corner onto the bar with Hope lurking. There was no escape from the next corner, Lee Protheroe heading home. Harlow briefly tried to rally, a long ball picking out Dobson, but it was all over when Wallace chased a ball and drilled low under Hassell. Liam Hope added the fifth, taking the ball wide before chipping it past Hassell.
