Kevin Riley tussles with the keeper as Andy Carr looks on

Enfield Town (1) 2 Panayiotou 21; Hepburn 79

Match details by Peter Coath, Enfield Town FC Press Officer

Two vastly changed teams took the field tonight, with Brimsdown Rovers looking completely different from last season since new management duo Tony Faulkner and Dean Cole took over, while Enfield Town started the match with a much more physical looking team than has been the norm.

Brimsdown got off to a stronger start but came up against the proverbial brick wall with Allan Fenn marshalling his back-four superbly. All of Town's newcomers looked good in the first half, with Neophytou and Geraghty busying themselves in midfield and Nash and McGregor working an interesting partnership down the left. Riley, Carr and Panayiotou found the going a little tough up front but it was Panayiotou who made the crucial breakthrough tapping home a simple goal on 24 minutes after the Brimsdown 'keeper failed to deal with a cross.

The Rovers were level on 35 minutes when Dwaine Wilson collected a low cross and evaded a tackle before slotting the ball past Andy Hall from close range.

Town made many changes in the second half and Matthew Negus had a glorious chance to earn some glory on 53 minutes when he went past two defenders and the 'keeper before slicing his shot over the bar. More substitutions followed, with Keke St Hilaire keeping the family involved after his father's retirement at the end of last season when he replaced the battered Kevin Riley on 56 minutes.

Andy Hall was showing that he had lost none of his sharpness during the summer with a string of fine saves, but Town started to take over towards the end and the winner came on 79 minutes when a Tommy Morgan cross was missed by both the Rovers 'keeper and Town's second-half striker Wesley Fox leaving Rory Hepburn free to tap home a simple goal.

Enfield Town: Hall, Ridout (Baldwin 45), McGregor (Hepburn 73), Fenn, Snowden (Gant 24), Nash (Palmer 60), Carr (Negus 45), Geraghty (Whyte 60), Riley (St Hilaire 56), Neophytou (Morgan 45), Panayiotou (Fox 45).

Boreham Wood (1) 2 Winston 32; Gutzmore 86
Enfield Town (0) 0

Match details by Peter Coath, Enfield Town FC Press Officer

Despite the adverse scoreline this was a good game for Enfield Town this afternoon, as the pre-season build-up continues to gain momentum. Once again, Jim Chandler's starting eleven showed great strength at the back and not a little ingenuity in midfield, while up front they did enough to worry the 'Wood' rearguard.

Allan Fenn soon built up a good defensive partnership with Graeme Hall, while Scott McGregor once again impressed at left back. Peter Ulatowski started, after missing the midweek game against Brimsdown, and he was backed up superbly from midfield by John Everitt. Tommy Morgan and Mathew Negus were proving useful along either flank and Town looked settled.

It took a moment of class from Sammy Winston on 32 minutes to put the home side ahead, when he found enough space in which to control the ball and shoot home past Andy Hall from the edge of the area. 'Town, despite their possession, had only created a few half-chances although Borehamwood's towering centre-half Lee Harvey was proving a difficult obstacle to surmount.

A mass of half-time substitutions by both sides put a different complexion on the game and 'Town started to find some space in which to operate. Pany Panayiotou was instrumental in many of the early exchanges and his awareness set up both Steve Baldwin and Ulatowski for chances, Baldwin's shot bringing out a superb save from the 'Wood 'keeper. Phidos Neophytou put in a steady display in midfield and his pass so nearly set up Everitt on 63 minutes but the 'keeper was quick to snuff out the danger.

Town youngsters Andy Carr and Keke St Hilaire were introduced late in the game and both were given a thorough testing by their more physical and experienced opponents. Wood grabbed a second on 86 minutes when Leon Gutzmore planted a superb header beyond Andy Hall, but the result was really immaterial today. Jim Chandler will have certainly found out a bit more about his squad, with the learning likely to continue as Town take on more Ryman League opposition in the coming weeks.

Enfield Town: A Hall, Gant (Baldwin 45), McGregor, Fenn, G Hall (Carr 69), Morgan, Negus, Geraghty (Panayiotou 45), Ulatowski (St Hilaire 76), Everitt (Geraghty 76), Nash (Neophytou 45).

Bishops Stortford (4) 8 Essandoh; Snowden (og); Southam (4); Renner; Hayes
Enfield Town (1) 1 Snowden

Match details by Peter Coath, Enfield Town FC Press Officer

After a promising start Town found themselves swamped by their Ryman Premier opponents tonight. A Stuart Snowden penalty put them in front after only 11 minutes, the spot-kick being awarded after Peter Ulatowski has been fouled by the Blues veteran goalkeeper Desborough. The lead didn't last long however, Roy Essandoh tapping home a low cross on 14 minutes to equalise. Town then self-destructed, with Snowden chesting the ball into his own net on 19 minutes to put them behind, and Steve Baldwin having to clear off the line minutes later. The brighter moments of the first half for Town came from David Allen, making his first start since last season, and the 'Stortford defence had their hands full in dealing with him at times.

Two goals from Glenn Southam extended the Blues lead before the interval but despite making six changes Town could not stem the flow. Southam grabbed two more as the scoreline continued to rise but, to their credit, Town were now creating some chances of their own and Panayiotou was heavily involved. There was a welcome return to action for Mark Telfer and promising displays from Andy Carr and Keke St Hilaire, but the final score showed that Town still have a bit of work to do before the current squad is ready.

Enfield Town: A Hall, Gant (Nash 45), Baldwin (Telfer 57, Snowden 84), Snowden (St Hilaire 78), Fenn (Carr 74), Allen (Brotherton 45), Negus, Quinn (Ridout 45, Allen 74), Ulatowski (Panayiotou 45), Geraghty (Neophytou 45), Morgan (Riley 45).

Arlesey (1) 3
Enfield Town(0) 1 Snowden (p)

Match details by Peter Coath, Enfield Town FC Press Officer

Enfield Town put on a better show for their supporters today, as they strove to overcome the humbling defeat of last Tuesday. Jim Chandler gave trialist Wayne Grant a position in the starting line-up, the newcomer partnering Peter Ulatowski up front. With eight regulars missing though it was very much a case of fielding what he had available rather than trying out different permutations. The defence looked vastly improved after the Bishop's Stortford defeat but they still got caught out rather easily on 17 minutes when Leon Gutzmore dived to head home - Town supporters noting that the same Mr Gutzmore scored a similar goal against them at Borehamwood last Saturday when he was on trial there. Ulatowski threatened the home goal twice before the interval but good goalkeeping denied him on both occasions.

The pairing of Grant and Panayiotou in the second half looked more likely to break through but Arlesey's substitute goalkeeper was doing his best to impress. Ex-Enfield players in the Arlesey line-up included Steve Magona and Shaun Marshall but it was ex-Towner Brad Poole's late introduction in the second half that really livened the game up. Tommy Morgan gave away a penalty on 80 minutes, from which Arlesey doubled their lead, before Poole returned the compliment on 86 minutes when his handball offence was punished by Stuart Snowden from the spot. Poole had the last word, when his low cross was turned home on 89 minutes to give the home team a slightly unjust final score. All in all a vast improvement by Enfield Town today, with Jim Chandler highly pleased with his team at the final whistle.

Enfield Town: A Hall, Negus (Carr 64), Morgan, Snowden, Gant (Nash 45), Baldwin (Fenn 64), Geraghty, Neophytou, Ulatowski (Panayiotou 45), Grant (St Hilaire 81), Quinn.

Enfield Town (0) 0
Hendon (0) 1 Cousins

Match details by Peter Coath, Enfield Town FC Press Officer

A superbly struck long-range goal from Scott Cousins was all that separated the two teams this afternoon, on a day far better suited to the spectators than the players. Despite the heat though, both teams did their best to impress and it was the Hendon strike force that seemed to impress more early on, with Andy Hall in business after only 3 minutes tipping a free-kick over the bar. Town battled well at the back and in midfield but they showed little up front as the experimental partnership of Peter Ulatowski and David Allen ran into the proverbial brick wall. Allen did manage to squeeze his way through on the odd occasion but the Hendon defence surrounded him in numbers to snuff out any danger.

The introduction of Panayiotou, Nash and Mwafyuma at half time livened things up a little bit and Hendon made several changes too, making the second half a different proposition altogether. Hendon hit the bar twice, while Allen was now finding a bit more room in which to operate. Panayiotou and Nash both gave Hendon 'keeper Dave King some work to do but just as Town were beginning to get their act together the visitors struck with Cousins drifting in unmarked to blast the ball home from outside the area. King tipped a Nash cross away from the onrushing Allan Fenn on 82 minutes but it was the last worthwhile effort from Town. Andy Hall twice denied the visitors in the closing minutes, but by then Hendon's lead looked very safe indeed.

It was another good performance from Town this afternoon, with the defence and midfield looking quite settled. It is the lack of results up front that continues to worry both management and supporters alike.

Enfield Town: A Hall, Negus (Whyte 63), Morgan (Carr 78), Snowden, Fenn, Baldwin, Gant (Nash 45), Quinn (Riley 63), Ulatowski (Mwafyuma 45), Geraghty (Panayiotou 45), Allen

Cheshunt (1) 4
Enfield Town (0) 1 Negus 50

Match details by Peter Coath, Enfield Town FC Press Officer

No floodlights at the Country Club meant that Referee John Taverner restricted each half to 40 minutes tonight, as Town fell to another pre-season defeat. A lively start by both teams was confined to much effort in midfield but little penetration where it counts. Town looked better up front tonight with Allen and Ulatowski in partnership, and it was Ulatowski that gave Cheshunt 'keeper Ling some work to do on 8 minutes when he got on the end of a Negus cross only to be denied by a fine save.

Cheshunt were starting to find a way through the Town defence though and Rose shot over on 21 minutes with Andy Hall doing well to save from a direct free kick moments later. Negus had a shot blocked on 24 minutes but Cheshunt opened the scoring on the half-hour mark with a goal of sheer simplicity, a long cross catching the defence cold and an unmarked man at the far post burying his shot well.

Three half-time changes lifted Town somewhat, and Allen escaped down the right to cross for Negus to equalise on 50 minutes. Cheshunt bounced back quickly though and two goals in a three minute spell put them well in command before the hour mark - the Town defence again being undone by good passing and clinical finishing. Neophytou went close from long range on 67 minutes, Town starting to string some good passes together by now, but another simple goal on 73 minutes put them further behind.

Enfield Town: A Hall, Negus (Telfer 52), Morgan, Snowden, Fenn, G Hall, Gant (Nash 40), Riley (Neophytou 40), Ulatowski (Panayiotou 50), Geraghty (Baldwin 40), Allen.

Long Melford photo

Long Melford (0) 3
Enfield Town (2) 2 D Acquah 4; Ulatowski 29

Match details by Peter Coath, Enfield Town FC Press Officer

A fine first-half performance was undone by simple mistakes after the interval as Enfield Town managed to squander a two-goal lead in their final pre-season friendly of this summer. The Acquah twins, David and Anthony, made their first start for Town but neither of them had really had a chance to impress before David put Town one up through a simple tap-in on 4 minutes after a horrendous miss-kick in front of goal by Long Melford's 'keeper Jason Haygreen. Town certainly looked sharper up front and Peter Ulatowski was enjoying his brief partnership with Acquah, heading in his cross on 29 minutes to extend Town's lead. Long Melford had made inroads by then though and two fine saves from Andy Hall preserved the lead until the interval.

Town made four changes at the break but none of them had touched the ball before Long Melford pulled one back. Straight from the restart, one of their many substitutes simply ran unchecked through the heart of the Town defence before planting an accurate shot beyond Hall's reach. Graeme Hall and Stuart Snowden then managed to gift the home side an equaliser on the hour mark, with Melford's Jones netting the winner 8 minutes later. By now, Town manager Jim Chandler had once again paired David Allen up front with Peter Ulatowski, and this time they seemed to be striking up a better partnership.

It was Matt Negus though who went the closest to getting another goal for the visitors when he drifted in unmarked at the far post to strike a low shot that was comfortably held by Melford's substitute 'keeper.

Enfield Town: A Hall, Allen (G Hall 45), Negus (Cole 45), Snowden (Negus 69), Fenn (Carr 89), Ridout (Baldwin 45), Gant (Geraghty 64), Geraghty (Nash 45), Ulatowski, D Acquah (Allen 52), A Acquah (Vidan 52).
