Brimsdown Rovers (1) 1 Dodds 21
Enfield Town (2) 3 Edwards 18; Poole 26; Sulola 80

Match Report by Peter Coath, Enfield Town FC Press Officer

Assistant Manager Peter Hammatt saw his Enfield Town team get off to a good start tonight in their first game of the new season. Both teams took this friendly fixture seriously and the 153 crowd were treated to a fine first-half as both teams strove to prove their worth. Chances went begging at both ends in the opening exchanges with John Ridout and Daniel Alleyne both going close for Town while Bradley Brotherton denied Brimsdown with a timely interception in his own penalty area. Martin Keogh then had a good chance for Brimsdown on 16 minutes but pulled his shot wide.

Town took the lead on 18 minutes when Cleveroy Edwards blasted home from six yards after a half-blocked shot from Mathew Negus landed at his feet. Brimsdown were level within three minutes though when Paul Dodds steered a shot past Andy Hall. With Bradley Poole and Mathew Negus roaming the flanks Enfield Town always had an outlet and it was a Poole cross on 26 minutes that Alleyne went close to restoring the lead. From the resultant corner John Ridout headed back across the goal for Stuart Snowden to power in a fine header that was comfortably saved. Town went back into the lead on the half-hour mark when David Thompson evaded a challenge on the left wing to get in a fine cross that was headed home at the far post by Bradley Poole.

Joe Sulola replaced David Thompson at half time while a mass of substitutions then saw Jason Nash, James Bunn, Keke St Hilaire and Rudi Hall join the action. Brimsdown were creating some chances though and Peter Hammatt will not be too impressed with the marking in the second half. Time after time the Rovers broke through and it was only through the superb goalkeeping of Andy hall that the lead remained intact. Town were still creating chances at the other end though and the skill of James Bunn was always going to cause Brimsdown problems. Town survived some dangerous moments during the second half before Joe Sulola made the game safe on the stroke of full time, firing home a loose ball from close range after Keke St Hilaire had been beaten to a James Bunn cross.

Enfield Town: A Hall, Snowsill, Brotherton, Snowden, Poole (K St Hilaire 46), M St Hilaire (Nash 46), Ridout, Alleyne (Bunn 46), Edwards (R Hall 46), Thompson (Sulola 40), Negus. Subs; Sulola, Nash, Bunn, R Hall, K St Hilaire.

Potters Bar Town 2 Martin 24; Dickie 87
Enfield Town 2 Alleyne 42; G. Hall 80

Match Report by Peter Coath, Enfield Town FC Press Officer

Both teams enjoyed a good, hard, competitive friendly at Parkfield tonight, in front of a crowd of 157. Enfield Town started with a more familiar line-up, with David Allen returning from injury and reclaiming his regular spot on the right flank. Potters Bar Town player-manager Steve Smart started for the home team and as an ex-Enfield player he would have been familiar perhaps with some of the opposition.

John Ridout had the first good goal-scoring opportunity for the visitors but his header was well saved as the far post by Steele after 9 minutes. Daniel Alleyne then ran unchallenged through the heart of the defence on 12 minutes but his pass found Mathew Negus in an offside position. Potters Bar took the lead on 24 minutes through Andy Martin who placed his shot beyond Andy Hall in the visitors goal. Bradley Poole replaced David Allen minutes later for the visitors. Ridout powered in another fine header on 30 minutes but this time it cleared the bar by inches.

Martin had a good chance to increase the lead on 35 minutes but after rounding Andy hall he delayed his shot long enough for the keeper to recover his position and make a comfortable save. Daniel Alleyne grabbed the equaliser on 42 minutes with a fine goal, skipping past his marker on the edge of the box to fire home accurately beyond the diving keeper.

Both teams made changes at half-time, Enfield Town replacing Martin St Hilaire and Bradley Brotherton with David Thompson and Cleveroy Edwards. Brotherton came back on within minutes though, to replace Stuart Snowden, and the game continued in much the same vein as the first half. Bradley Poole went close on 61 minutes after good link-up play by Cleveroy Edwards and David Thompson down the left.

David Allen came back on to replace John Ridout on 63 minutes. The midfield battle had become quite physical now and Daniel Alleyne came in for some close attention. Keke St Hilaire and Joe Sulola replaced James Bunn and Alleyne on 71 minutes, with Sulola having a half chance soon after from a David Thompson cross. Graeme Hall put the visitors ahead on 80 minutes, rising unchallenged at the far post to head home a Thompson cross. Sulola was then denied by a great save on 83 minutes and then again on 85 minutes when he was narrowly beaten to a cross from Keke St Hilaire. Potters Bar grabbed a deserved equaliser on 87 minutes through James Dickie who ran round the back of the Enfield Town defence to fire a powerful shot into the roof of the net. In the end, a draw was a fair result.

Enfield Town: A Hall, Allen, Negus, G Hall, Snowden, Snowsill, Brotherton, Ridout, M St Hilaire, Bunn, Alleyne. Subs (all used); K St Hilaire, Poole, Edwards, Sulola, Thompson.

Harrow Borough (2) 3 Lawford 14, 25; Charles 75
Enfield Town (0) 0

Match Report by Peter Coath, Enfield Town FC Press Officer

An experienced Harrow line-up gave Enfield Town a hard match tonight and swept into a two-goal lead at half time with strikes by Lawford on 14 and 25 minutes. Town did have their moments though but Daniel Clarke was kept at bay and the home goal was not seriously threatened until 38 minutes when a Danny Snowsill corner caused some consternation, the keeper having to push the ball out of play to deny a swarm of Town players a scoring opportunity. Mathew Negus then curled in a dangerous cross on 43 minutes but the ball spun away from the onrushing Martin St Hilaire.

Cleveroy Edwards replaced Negus at half time while Harrow made some five substitutions. The second half saw Town busy up front but frequently caught on the break. Andy Hall produced the save of the match on 50 minutes to deny Harrow a third goal while Town pushed forward in numbers. The game really came alive around the 65 minute mark when Keke St Hilaire replaced Clarke, the first time he and his father had been on the pitch together, and Bradley Poole took over from Snowsill. Ever keen to impress, Town's two youngsters formed a lively partnership and St Hilaire junior had two good goal attempts before Harrow netted a third goal on 75 minutes through Charles.

Town continued to battle though and John Ridout found himself in the thick of the action, covering ever blade of grass on the pitch as he tried to coax something productive from his team. At the back, Graeme Hall, Stuart Snowden and Bradley Brotherton performed superbly against more experienced opposition while Andy Hall was magnificent as usual. A tough work-out it certainly was, with manager Jim Chandler more than happy with the way his team fared. 130 people watched this match.

Enfield Town squad (all used); A Hall, M St Hilaire, Negus, Snowden, Brotherton, G Hall, Alleyne, Ridout, Clarke, Snowsill, Edwards, Thompson, Poole, K St Hilaire, Sulola and one trialist.
